Oceanic Marketing in Puerto Vallarta: Advertising innovation or a bad branding idea?

Oceanic Marketing Puerto Vallarta placed an LED screen on a boat off the beach and achieved something any brand should think twice about: attention accompanied by rejection. The company defended its proposal as an innovative advertising strategy and claimed to have the necessary permits, while users questioned the visual pollution and potential environmental impact. The interesting question isn't just whether it's allowed. It's whether a brand should want to be there.
An idea can be creative, disruptive, and novel without being strategic. If the context is unfavorable to the advertising, the execution can end up associating the brand with disrupting an experience that people value. And that's where a much more useful business question arises than "how many people will see my ad?": what do we want those people to think and feel after seeing it? The logic behind the execution matters just as much as its visibility.
In our podcast, Cierre de Semana, we discuss the gap between opportunity, legality, responsibility, and effectiveness, as well as why strategic marketing demands considering audience, context, and consequences before occupying a new advertising space. Watch the full segment of the episode and hear the team's conversation before deciding whether this format is innovative or simply noise on a big screen.
